August Newsletter

"Anytime" at the South Coast Theater Saturday 8/31!

Join us and our friends at Shimano for the Orange County premiere of "Anytime". This exhilarating film follows the collective ambitions of fifteen of the world’s top freeride mountain bikers as they push the boundaries of their sport across forests, deserts, cities, and high-alpine peaks. It's an immersive MTB experience that promises to thrill and inspire —definitely a must-see!

What we’ve been doing

The Latest

Since our last newsletter there's been more fun things happening in the local MTB scene. On July 7 we represented at the Christmas in July on Fullerton Loop and hosted, along with the Trail Angels, our next Open Space Explore, this time at Red Rocks. August 3 we had the first of several Good Dirt Ride pre-rides. August 9-10 marked the start of the Strait Acres slalom and Over the Hump cross country series. We did rides with the Laguna Beach City Manager, surveys in prep for the Trabuco Canyon trail re- opening and on August 24 supported the OC MTB Races at Gypsum Canyon.

The Dirt

Although it's dry season, we're still getting a trail work day or two in. Last week it was Stagecoach in Laguna Coast Wilderness - Cullen & Drew each earned a gift card! (see below before & after)

We're looking forward to building a dedicated trail work team for San Onofre State Beach ("Dog Park" trails) with support from our friends at YamahaWe maintain our presence in the OC Parks Trails Subcommittee, the August 9 meeting resulting in recommended trail names for Gypsum Canyon and we continue to work with the agencies on our Rapid Reaction Trail Work and volunteer development efforts.

We continue to be excited by and for the City of Irvine Gateway Project in early 2025, 10+ more miles of trails for your enjoyment every day are in the "pipeline" now!

Local Focus

On July 7 the MTB community gathered to celebrate the life of Miguel Flores. Miguel was part of the Rock n Road Anaheim team for several decades, having touched the bikes and the hearts of so many of us over the years.

On August 24, SSB MTB hosted a ride event at the San Dimas location of Incycle. John B Silva and Matt Ford are fantastic supporters for all of us in Southern California and truly demonstrate how much we really are just one big family.

And, on the same day we gathered to send off ("not goodbye, but see you later") Jon & Missy Kearley of Non Dot fame, as they expand the reach of their MTB community building making Bentonville their new home for all of us to visit.

It is moments like these that help to remind all of us of the amazing and unique family that is the Orange County mountain bike community - we are truly blessed
