Advocacy Update

Orange County Mountain Bike Association is YOU!  And it's our goal to defend and to grow places for us to celebrate our two wheeled passion.  There's some pretty awesome things in the works, we wanted to make sure you were up to speed.

Take a look, let us know if you have any questions, be a part of the trail movement and voice your support!

San Clemente Pump Track

We are beyond stoked to invite you to the ribbon cutting of the first public sanctioned pump track, arguably the first bike specific facility in all of Orange County.  Come join the party, ride the track then head out to singletracks to get some dirt too.  And watch this space, seven cities have already signed up to rent a temporary pump track this Spring, the first step in considering one just like San Clemente jumped into first.  This was done by and for YOU, it's a shining example of what we can do together!

Craig Park Bike Facility

Over a decade ago our legacy organization, SHARE, invested in the design for an MTB skills area at Craig Park in Fullerton (do you recognize the OGs in the town hall pics?!).  Well that dream is also becoming a reality.  At the OC Parks Trails Subcommittee meeting April 10 we learn that the project is in the RFP stage with a intent to become a construction project for 2025/2026.  9.7 acres of trail and features built for YOU to develop your skills on!

Gateway Preserve

The City of Irvine in concert with the Irvine Company negotiated a 630 acre region West of the 241 and North of the 133 that will soon become our next wilderness trail space.  With a project 10-12 miles of trails, nearly completed with the wildlife agencies reviews, you can expect trail building to commence soon.  We can't wait to add this general access park to the inventory of recent managed access wilderness spaces operating in the Irvine Ranch Open Space, new spaces where YOU can ride.

Cleveland National Forest

The Airport Fire was a tragedy from a lot of angles, including the temporary loss of access to the better part of 20k acres of pristine National Forest and all their trails we enjoy.  The Forest Service has granted one closure area reduction and has communicated they plan to shrink the zone more as soon as the rainy season has passed.  They are also in agency review presently on the resurrection (and rerouting) of the West Horsethief and Trabuco trails in the Holy Jim Region.  Respect the closures, YOUR coveted access will be regained soon.

IRC Trail MTB Guide/Docent development

Over the last couple years we've seen the opening of three new parks, Saddleback, Gypsum Canyon and Red Rocks.  This adds good trail mileage to the OC mountain bike realm, however it was done in a managed access form.  This means you either go on a Wilderness Access Day or with a guided MTB group.  We have made a concerted effort to increase the number of Guides/Docents such that the volume of these rides can be increased.  There are a dozen of us in course now and another cohort in September, join us in making a difference on YOUR access in these and other managed access spaces.

As you can see, there's lots happening focused directly on our mission.  We make this happen with the power of our community, with YOU.  If you have questions, let us know.  If you want to get involved, raise your hand.

Together there is so much we can accomplish, and we're only just getting started!
